Mujer Maya tejiendo

In this painting, a woman in traditional Mayan clothing is weaving fabric using a back strap loom with balls of yarn at her feet. Weaving tejidos (fabrics) has a long history in Guatemala, and many Guatemalans rely on weaving to make their own clothes and to sell to others. This painting includes incredibly intricate detail such as the woman's clothing, hair, fabric design, and a textured background. These details and raised surface required significant amounts of the artist's time and precision making this piece valuable.
