Cosecha de café (verde)
Coffee is harvested in Guatemala from December to April and the annual Guatemalan coffee harvest festival is celebrated on February 2nd. During the festival, there are processions with food, music, dancing, and of course lots of coffee. This painting is inspired by the annual coffee harvest and the festival. Coffee is hand-picked to ensure that only ripe cherries are picked which are a dark red color and contain coffee beans. As shown in the painting, this process is labor intensive and requires many workers. The decorative clothing of the workers and harvest reflect key aspects of Guatemalan culture.
