Arco de Santa Catalina (amarillo) - Santa Catalina Arch (yellow)
This painting shows the famous Santa Catalina Arch on Calle del Arco ("street of the arch"). This landmark was built in 1694 to connect a school on one side of the arch to a covenant on the other side, allowing nuns to pass without going to the crowded street. A clock was added to the top of the arch in 1830. The bright colors in the arch and the rain soaked-cobblestones are representative of the colorful streets of Guatemala.
